A clutch drive shaft

What holds the drive shaft in the trans. Trying to get new engine lined up but won't go on. I don't know if shafts are different size, pilot bearing. Thought may the shaft slipped out. Time to go take some more accurate measurements. Probably just not holding my tongue right.

try putting the tranny in neutral an engage the PTO lever, then have someone turn the PTO shaft slowly while you try to get it to go together. I'm assuming you used an alignment shaft when you installed the clutch to the flywheel. Sometimes they can be a pain on any tractor, then all at once it goes.

Unfortunately I'm by myself today. Trying to turn the pulley as I wiggle it in.
As of now I took the clutch and flywheel off. In the process I noticed the outer ring on the flywheel was broke so I pulled everything off the other engine and I'm working on flipping the ring gear now.

If you are alone try just turning the shaft slightly and keep trying it. Some of the transmission shafts have the ends of the spline beveled to help. Don't know about the A.

(quoted from post at 16:12:11 01/14/18) if you had the clutch disc and pressure plate off, you need to align the clutch disc.
I hadn't removed it then. I was going to flip the ring gear but have decided to order a new one
