I have a 585 C-IH that each year when we have a zero spell it will leak a little antifreeze. I've looked for the source, no luck. Figure maybe a hose clamp but it doesn't seem that. Kinda hard to locate, I'm thinking water pump seal??? When the weather warms the leak will cease.

I spent quite a few years as a heavy truck mechanic and I have seen that many times. I think what is happening is that when it gets zero or colder, the rubber hose under the clamp gets so cold that it looses its compressibility. Tightening the clamp while it?s still frozen helped some.
As soon as the engine or the weather warmed up, it stopped. A block heater helped some too.
Best suggestion is the radiator pressurized pump. Then you can see exactly where the coolant is coming from.

Larry is correct-for some reason it seems to be a diesel phenomenon. I too worked on trucks all my life,and winter brought out the cold water leaks.And they're usually hose clamps.My own 485 has done this before.Sometimes you have to double clamp them,but there's only a few hoses on it to check.Mark

The water light has been on in my 886 since it got bitter cold. It seeps just enough from a couple of spots to drop it the few drops it takes to trip the light. Back when I drove school bus those suckers would leak from every foot of the 900 miles of coolant lines they had just as soon as we got this weather. Some would also do it in the spring before a stormy day when the barometer fluctuated. I hate leaks but that's one that just sometimes happens.
