I got the motor emptied so I am going to clean it up and start putting it back together. Cam then Pistons/sleeves then Crank and Connecting Rods sound right? I need to replace the camshaft as it has some sever rust on the journals and I buggered the threads getting it loose and out. In any case, does it matter which # camshaft I put in it. It's a kerosene head so if I can get any improvement with a different camshaft I would do that but I know nothing about the #s I would be looking for. Thanks!

A camshaft for a 450 will be the best you can do, but any of them for an M through 450 will fit.

Any idea what the # is on a 450 camshaft? I am assuming the diesel cams don't work.

Latest cam for those engines was the only one made after sometime in 1957. Regular replacements are supposed to be patterned after that camshaft. You will need the nut for it also unless you already have the left hand thread one. If getting used it may have more than one number on the cam itself. One with suffix DB after the number on it is what to look for. New ones should say replaces a suffix the same or DBX if nut was included. Gas and kerosene used the same camshafts so a good one for any model will work. Think I recall 48196DBX being the replacement number but don't hold me to it. Probably show new ones on this site. M to SMTA used the D suffix. 400 and part of the 450 used DA suffix.
