Battery for 656 gas

My 1970 656 gas has a cheap Walmart battery. The battery cover uses an angle clip to hold down the battery which of course is worthless because of the wrong physical size of the battery. Can anybody advise me of the correct battery number?

A group 24 should do it.

I just have a board and a tarp strap holding mine in.

Go shopping for the highest cold cranking Amp Group 24 battery you can find . as that is what should be in it . Now if you are still having a starting problem then first thing i would look at is the starter , If the bushing are wore out this can let the armature drag and cause slow hard starting drawing more amps. If the brushes are wore down this will affect starting . When was the last time that tractor had a Major Tune up . A Major tune up consists of adjusting valves,ing. timing Checking the intake and exhaust manifold insuring all bolts are tight , checking the advance mechanize in the dist. . Making sure the carb is adjusted correctly and on that tractor providing nobody did barn yard repairs the only thing there is fine ideal adjustments and setting ideal RPM's , making sure that the charging system is working properly.
