Cam rear question

It is the same issue with Correct parts needed. The gear should be from a Super H 300 or 350. The front cover will either need to be plugged and re-drilled for the top bolt to match or the cover replaced with the SH or newer. Not a bad conversion.

Put one on a 50 model H last year and set relief valve at 1,000 PSI because I needed something extra to lift heavy stuff, so far so good. Figured I would deal with it if it failed. 50 model I installed on had the bolt pattern for a IH type pump but some 50 model down don't. There was a serial number break. Don't know what cam gear is in it, never removed the cover. M&W made pumps that will bolt to any model.

How long do the old style cam gears last after a live hydraulic pump is added? If you don't use the tractor more than a hundred hours per year it may never become a problem. You can always inspect and update the cam gears at the next engine overhaul.

Original aluminum gears can last if pressures are limited to 500 or so and the pressure relief is quick acting. The M&W pumps are rare and often worn. The Pumps from Stage2 SH and more modern letter series operate at 1200 to 1500 psi and can wear/break the gear. If the gear is changed there is no reason not to replace the front cover with the one allowing the newer IH pump to bolt up. I think the serial break was mid production 1950. Jim

Not sure how far parts books are behind when printed. For that series have one dated 7-1951 that shows the original gear from H start 6664D. One dated 11-51 shows 6664DA. My tractor was built in August 1950. Front cover was changed in July 1950. Without looking I think 1955 was the start of last design from IH 6664DB. Reason I don't know what's in mine is because if ever replaced in the last 65 years or so it would have a later number.
