Tractor wiring question

I have a Super C that I?ve had intermittent electrical issues m with lately and would like advice. I have a 12V system, one wire alternator, and it does not have a magneto. The main power wire from the switch goes directly to the ballast resistor. I?ve had people tell me that I don?t need a resistor, but that?s how it?s been wired for 20+ years, and it?s been a non-issue since I?ve owned it for ten years. Anyways, several years ago I removed the old lights front and back, and replaced them with newer lights and I also put flashers on the back. Is there a better way to wire a tractor than have a few strings of wires going to the battery? I have basic electrical knowledge and am wondering if I should buy a simple fuse block type setup like a newer tractor/ car would have, then I?d only have one wire going to the battery post. Is there a good diagram or setup you guys can recommend? I use this tractor 50-100 hrs a year, year round, and want it to be more reliable instead of chasing my tail. Email is open.

Thanks

No diagram. But,in a situation like yours,I completely strip out the old 'harness' and rewire fresh.Your old harness has issues,it is best to get rid of it..With a Gm one wire, run one wire from the alt to the ammeter, then to the battery. Then run one wire from the ammeter to the ignition switch, then to the distrubtor. That is all it will take to run and charge. If you want lights, run a wire from the ampmeter to a light switch, then to your lights.14 gauge wireand crimp on terminals is fine.Solder if you want, but not nessesary. Tape it all together nice and neat with black electrical tape.No resistor is needed, only if you still have the 6volt coil is one needed.easy,simple.I have 5 old tractors wired like this. The first one 20 years ago. Never had any problems with any of them.
