Should end in C (for LP) S, looks like a conversion, factory tanks ran crossways, still, nice tractor.

Mine is Serial 67xxxx E S Cross ways tank installed at I.H. dealer .
Used all from parts book of SM.

GSR If you look at SM and SMTA parts you will find a LP wire harness and some other parts were used on SM tractors up to serial 52627. SMTA serials started at 60001 and no wire harness or some other parts listed for a LP, so they didn't have a LP code. LP used higher compression so some regular SMTA gas tractors were equipped with higher compression pistons for LP conversion. E was pistons for 8000 foot elevation that raised the compression. That tractor looks to be one of the SMTA that IH sent to a company in Texas that used the front to rear tank direction with the conversion. Nice looking tractor.

That is a excellent example of a IH Authorized Super MTA LP. according to the list most have the D or E code on the engine and chasis serial numbers. The factory super m lp which used the cross tanks had either the C or N codes on their engine and chasis serial numbers. The factory authorized super mta tractors were shipped from factory by rail car to Texas. Some went to Lubbock others to San Angelo to have the tanks and fuel systems installed then were shipped to the dealerships for sale. Chris if John Yoars didn't send you his black list email me and I will forward it to you. There is 30 super mta-lp's already accounted for and looking for more to document.

I need to call John and give him all the details, Engine C-262 s/n is 136023E 8-31-Z casting code
Head is a 3 8060DC 7-23-Z casting code Everything else I can find is Z coded I know this tractor was special ordered by my grandad an IH dealer from 40's thru 70's. It has charlynn power steering M&W governor, crank, rods pistons and I think starter. Starter is a reduction gear unit I have never found it in a parts book for IH or M&W either for that matter. Sold to a customer and bought back fairly quick.

The starter is made by Delco Remy, look in the super m parts book. That same starter was used on stage 2 super m-lp, the stage 1 sm used a gear reduction starter as well but only a 2 bolt nose cone on stage 1.
