M throttle shaft removal

Have a question, I rebuilt my carb on my 47 M with an economy kit, because I wasn't sure if tractor would
run after 20+yr nap. I wasn't able to get throttle shaft out. Ran good, but after about 10hr use runs poorly
(rain cap doing pating pating) unless choke 3/4 closed then runs new car smooth again. Want to do real
rebuild. But what am I missing to get that shaft out? those little plugs gotta be drilled out? Sorry if its
obvious. Thanks!

Should just have to pull the two screws in the shaft for the throttle plate, and then pull the plate straight out of the throat of the throttle body. From there, the shaft should come straight out the governor end. You may need to wiggle it or grab it with a pliers of some king. There may be some grooves wore into it that are fighting you, or just a lot of ears of stubborn buildup preventing it from coming out. Throttle plate is the only thing that holds it in.

Thanks ken thought it should too. It did on my junk carb.I will keep trying was afraid of being too aggressive. Then i will use that bushing trick with the bolt. Thanks!

If you have a filter on the fuel line other than the sediment bowl screen and small screen at the carb fitting, that might be the issue. Gravity fuel supply systems easily plug up the fuel filters most commonly found. A filter from NAPA for use with gravity systems is much more forgiving. I also think you have a plugged up passage or jet in the carb. When putting the shaft back together, make sure the plate is where it was exactly. This means installing it right side up, and a bit loose in the shaft, then moving it against the throttle bore (idle stop screw removed/loose) so it is a perfect fit. then tighten the screws. Jim

Thanks jim i have noticed sometimes there has been sort of air block were its like the filter, its see through, wont fill with gas. Even with tank cap off also i will try that with throttle plate because idle slot is over the recomend .031.Thanks.
