Farmall Super C Carb replacement

I've got a 1953 Super C and rebuilt the Carter UT carb for the last time! I ordered a new Zenith and I hope that was the way to go. Just wondering if anyone has anything bad or good to say about Zenith?

I have replaced a carburetor with a Zenith. It has worked well, and I've had no problems with it at all.

About all the Carter carburetors are good for is throwing practice :)

This is the carburetor I got:

Here's mine on a 53 Super C, it's been on for at least 15 years, was always a little too lean so a couple of years ago I shaved a little out of the main jet, runs perfect now.

I have one my 53 Super C also. Been on almost 10 years. Put a kit in it about 5 years because it does not like our Kansas ethanol. I went ahead and bought and installed an adjustable main jet. I mow and tractor pull with mine, so it nice to be able to adjust it any time. Threw the Carter in the trash.

I have a 1953 Super C fast hitch tractor and put a Zenith on it after trying for two years to get the Carter UT running so it could be used in the hay field. Put a (NOS still in the box) Zenith I picked up from a vendor at the 2006 RPRU and have never looked back. My SC is my hay rake tractor along with everything it is suited for with the fast hitch so it gets a lot of use. I use non-ethanol fuel (delivered bulk to the farm) in my tractors and have never had any issues since. It will serve you well, Hal.

My '52 SC has a Carter, I'm guessin the the original, and I've had no problems with it at all and she runs perfect. Lucky I guess!

I don't think there was anything fundamentally wrong with Carter carburetors. Back in the day, we didn't have any more problem with them than a Zenith or MS. It appears the problem now is the difficulty of finding decent rebuild kits.

It seems like a lot of the Carter carb problems we see go back to a story that begins like: "My tractor didn't start so I tore the carburetor apart . . ."

I agree, but the Carters are made of aluminum instead of cast iron. Aluminum has a tendency to warp over the years which makes it very difficult, if not impossible, to do a quality rebuild.
