574 leaking oil around steering wheel

Got the 574 started so that I could blade some snow away from the driveway. I let it set for a few minutes to warm up before I started using it. Made a couple of passes, then noticed oil coming from under the steering wheel, onto the dash and down onto the platform. Guessing that there may have been moisture in the steering motor and probably blew the seals. Is this hard to replace, or am I going have to replace the whole steering motor?

My IH584 leaks like that due to the fire it had. I have asked about it on here and was told it is not a simple seal replace job but takes special tooling to do so to fix it, it is likely to be a take it to IH or replace the whole steering motor. On mine I am thinking about pulling the steering wheel off and them cleaning up the steering shaft and then buying a seal that will fit tightly and use JB weld to hold it in place and see if that helps. I figure that would be a simple $10 gamble if it would even cost that much and I have nothing to lose

My old 1960 Trojan loader had the same problem, the fix was a 3.00 seal, and about 4 hours to put it in. Not an easy job to pull that motor off, but once done the seal was right in the end cap.

I had the same leak around steering, took off steering unit, (kind of an ugly job, maybe 3-4 hours) and took it to a local repair guy to be resealed. Maybe $250 to be resealed at local shop, been a while, just remember the ugly removal and replacement, just really tight behind the dash.

a service package part number 68200c1 should do the job take steering wheel off .take snap ring out set steering back on give some quick jerks r or l should push old seal out . in stall new seal.
