F12 Starting Crank & Shaft - Modification Test

The starting crank shaft on my F12 was partially removed and also damaged by the previous owner. One of the few things I dislike about the F12 is the necessity to shift the motor back in order to remove or refit the starting handle shaft. In addition, the chance of finding original parts in Victoria, is almost zero. Therefore, I have made a modification. Today is the day to test the new version. The original relationship between the starting dog/ratchet and the starting handle pin has been maintained (90 degrees). The universal joint is for Farmall H or M. The universal will be secured by a roll pin, for which a special removal / fitting punch has been made.
I hope it works!

Thank you! I fitted it and it works perfectly. The universal joint can be greased from the off-side of the tractor.
The front of the universal joint rests just on the casting where the front starting crank shaft protrudes. I should have shortened it to avoid this, but as it only just touches it can wait until it needs to come out next time.
Have to think of an F12 part number for the punch used to drive in the roll pin!

A cutoff wheel in a die grinder could be used to bevel the edge where it touches. Very nice solution. Jim

That is an excellent idea. My nephew is at the farm during Christmas and the school holidays, so we will be working on the tractor quite a bit. He is six and quite determined that he will carry out repairs, as long as I undo the big bolts for him! That makes working on old tractors even more enjoyable for me.
