H farmall hydraulic pump removal

I am fixing to have to drop the hydraulic pump out of my h farmall.
I understand you have to remove the drive shaft, leakage, and fittings.
I have removed them before but usually I end up dropping the pump.
They have got to be a safe way to raise and lower the pump from the belly thanks

The thing is real heavy, and I always use my two boys to hold on and help lower it. Even then, use two long all-thread lowering bolts, threaded into opposite corners of the bottom, I MIGGHT REMEMBER THEY ARE 5/16"??? Use nuts on them, to lower with. The other thing is, the thing will tip over and be very difficult to hold steady. I always remove the top fill connection knob, and thread on a threaded merchant pipe coupling, then a short pipe nipple onto that, so as I lower it the thing is held in place against the tractor frame and cannot tip. I add couplings and nipples as I go, so the thing is always held and cannot tip. Really helps me do the job. You might buy 4 or 5 couplings and short nipples before you start.

Or you can make yourself a belly pump removal tool, out of a hardwood 4x4,or a good 4x4, you have to do some drilling on it, so you can put a bolt crossways thru the cultivator slots in the bottom, and lower it with a floor jack.

It is heavy and cumbersome, but here is some video on how I did it with a floor jack. Pretty simple process really. Just have to be careful. Skip to about 15:30 in the video, and it will take you right to it. I install it in the video, but do the reverse and you should be fine.
Farmall H Belly Pump Install

Using 5 pipe sections (6 inch nipples and couplings of 1/2" NPT iirc) place them in sequence on the filler pipe and lower it using the pipes as a guide to keep it vertical. A 3/8" thick 12"X6" steel plate bent 3" from one end 90 degrees with a 3/4" hole n it can also be bolted to the cultivator Key holes and used as a jack base. Jim

If you have a floor jack and helper you can slowly lower it, if no helper you dig through your junk pile and find something to bolt to the jack.
