Super C - Governor Issues

It appears that the governor spring on my Super C is broken. When moving the throttle, the engine speed increases slightly. By hand I can move the throttle rod at the carburetor and get full engine speed. My next step is to remove the distributor, governor and check things out. Any suggestions on removal, along things I should be looking once I do get it apart?

you dont need to remove the dist or you will have to get it back in time just remove the gov housing its a tight fit but isnt that hard to do.

I ended up removing the hood, grille and fan shroud for more room. Just remove the governor cover. In addition to the spring, check for excessive wear on the bearings, upper spring arm and the governor arm that connects to the carb linkage. Also, be sure to check the bump spring located on the bottom of the cover, inside a set screw and acorn nut.

There is no need to remove anything but the governor housing itself. It will come out without touching the hood or grille or radiator.

If you are in there to replace the spring, also replace the thrust bearing while you are in there unless you like pulling the governor housing a second time.

Thanks for the information. I have the governor off. Springs shows wear on attaching ends and eyelets on connecting levers. The main issue is the wear/slop on the throttle leaver going into the governor housing. Did not have time to check it out completely (grandson Christmas play), but it appears that bushing going into the housing is worn. Need to check if the bushing can be replaced and if parts are available.

take it to a machine shop they can bore that hole out then install a brass bushing 1/2x5/8 it will work like new again I have done a bunch of them. After installing be sure to set the linkage to the carb correct
