TA ramp wear

Is the wear on ramp bad enough to worry about. What would be options, replace?, repair?

If you've got it all apart, there is absolutely no sense in putting it back together without replacing the ramp and rollers. Think about how much work it was to get to that point, and think about having to do it all again.

That?s kinda how I was thinking, but now I?m second guessing
myself because when I called a couple tractor supply guys to
check on bearing prices they said I don?t need to replace the
bearings unless I?m sure they are bad. Years ago i was taught
if you pull a bearing off you should replace it and to not reuse
an old bearing. I want to do it right, but man this tractor is
beating up my wallet.

How's the first, top, barging, behind the ta housing, there was 1 roller missing in my brothers SMTA,so i changed that too, but the new one is much heavier, than the original! That was only $90.00, from mother harvester. We drained the oil, went in their with a magnet, never did find that roller!

I can see there is a groove worn into the ramp and that is what happens. This causes the roller to not move freely to lock up on the carrier thus no drive in low side of TA.

As far as bearings, you have to know what to look for when checking a used one. We all know that if the bearing lasted for a long time and is in good condition, it was made properly out of good stuff.

Pins don't look to be beat up and groves on ramp don't look to deep. For a myself repair or one without a warranty you could reuse. With a drill press and a small diameter round stone lock the drill press so when the ramp lays on the table the stone contacts the width of ramp. With a steady hand move the ramp to take the grove out and maintain contour of sloop. If stone starts wearing uneven change it or use a small sanding disc. If the roller contact area on carrier needs turned then a regular size roller will contact past the grove. Have dressed up pins and put new springs in if needed. Lots of time the planet gear and bearings along with the sun shaft needle bearing are okay. But I take the carriers apart and check. Outside of ramp and rollers seems like the planet gear pins and planet gears and plates gaud on ends. Also needle bearings on planet gear shafts will grove shaft sometimes. If you remove planet gears they are timed. They have marks to line up but best to mark so they go back to the same shaft and holes. Sun shaft seal can be installed without removing shaft but best when sun shaft is removed. Wouldn't put one back without changing the seal. Bearing that goes on the ramp end is offset. If installed wrong it will contact carrier and put metal wear in the unit and oil. When in doubt I don't recommend short cutting though. I tend to reuse good original parts though because the replacements may not be as good.

I would replace the ramp and rollers. You should also check the carrier for wear. With a .010 oversized roller and ramp replacement your carrier needs to measure 2.858 - 2.875 and be completely round with no roller tracks.

Put a sprag kit in it and be done with it! 28 verses 8 equals lots more surface area to lock up on the low side. Yeah it costs more but Ive never replaced one with sprag kit in it for being out on low side and Ive but 100s in. Just my 2 cents worth
