Older {85} Customer has one of these that keeps gas fouling the Plugs. Been useing the 3116 auto lites. Compression is 125-150 so not comp. problem.Put in new set of plugs and it runns good with very good power. Points and cond, cap and rotor are good, new plug-coil wires {reg. wire not auto. wire}. He does piddle work with this and not getting it warmed up good and I am sure no high rpms. Thinking about suggesting Electronic ignition kit.

Your thoughts??

My 300u still is 6v,still has points, and I believe I actually still have champion plugs in it.I was wondering if it is running a little rich.Mine had a clogged itty bitty passage in the carb one time that caused it to foul plugs, but it also had lost power. I will say this, that engine likes gas.A lot. And it runs better if it is worked .If I idle mine around too much,it will try to foul a plug, but work it hard for a little bit and it clears up.
If you let it warm up too long on partial choke, mine will try to foul a plug.Does his start well in cold weather ?
So make sure the choke is fully open after warm up,maybe lean the carb just a bit.Tell him to work it harder or at higher rpm, maybe run in a lower gear.Mark

I agree with look at the carburetor. It may be set too rich or the the idle circuits may be plugged enough that the engine is running on the load circuit with the choke on. Maybe block off part of the grill with a feed sack or cardboard to help it warm up faster?

Electronic ignition won't make a speck of difference. That tractor needs to be run HARD for awhile. Get it good and warmed up and run it up and down the road. Lots of carbon buildup in the cylinders. The carbon needs blowed out.

You might try a set of NGK plugs that match the auto lite plugs. I have found the NGK tend to hold up better with this gas we have now days

I had a similar issues years ago and kept messing with the plugs. Turn out it was set too rich at the carb.
