International 300U Water Pump

After removing the radiator and fan for repairs, I'm considering also removing the water pump on my 300U and having it rebuilt. I'm not having any problems with it but thought I would do so since I was this far in to it. Should I have it rebuild by replacing the packing with seals which I've seen on youtube videos, replacing the old packing with new packing or not attempt to have it rebuilt since I'm not having any issues overheating.

if the shaft is tight and no leaks and it gets greased a bit once in a while i would just leave it.

Mine is original, and has 7700+ hrs on it.The tractor has been in our family all its life,so I know the history.I would leave it alone also.Mark.

I tend to go with the if it isn't broke don't fix it think because if it isn't and you fix it, it sure as heck will be broken after you have fixed it

Two parts wear out on those pumps. The fan is mounted on that pulley hub on two ball bearings. Grabbing the fan will tell you if those bearings are loose. The impeller is supported with brass bushings so grabbing ahold of the driver and checking for side movement will tell you how tight the shaft and bushings are. If the driver is near the end of driving studs, the inner thrust face of the impeller and bushing is worn out. If packing nut is very close to end of adjustment it might be a good idea to at least add a packing or two.
