running hot

Well had nice day, Fired up old rusty, ran just fine and I noticed radiator boiling coolant out the fill cap. Well after I let it set for a while, checked overflow tube it was stopped up in the bottom from some kind of critters filling the hole with mud , ran wire down tube from top to bottom and cleaned it out. no more over heating. Might be something to check if over heating is a problem.

Up here in Maine we call them Mud Dobbers. They look like a black hornet and will plug up every small hole they find. First they lay their eggs then plug the hole with a mud like plug. I have a major problem with them.

Here we have leaf cutter bees. Little nonstinging bees that pollenate. Every little hole is plugged with leaf and beeswax.Air fittings, gunbarrels ........

I grew up in the Red river country on the Texas/ Oklahoma border, where we called them "Dirt Daubers". They are maddeningly efficient, and I recall my exasperated Grandmother once saying "Those danged critters could get inside a light bulb". I still laugh about that one.

I'll bet it was not over heating but was a bit over full and since the overflow tube was clogged up it had to go some place and out the cap is where it went simple as that but yes the over flow tube should be kept open so the overflow goes where it should go

no was not over full just building pressure.

Water expands significantly when heated. If you fill a radiator and don't leave enough room for expansion, it is overfilled, and will overflow as the water warms up.

The point here though is that your tractor was not overHEATING. Unplugging the overflow tube certainly wouldn't solve it if it were.
