Frost Plug Heater

I bought a frost plug heater for my 574 an discovered it does not have a frost plug. Are there other options?

All I hear about the magnetic ones is bad. The radiator hose heater may be an option. A year or so back someone gave me instructions on how to put a heater on my 300u which does not have a frost plug. Apparently I did not save those instructions because they are not in the folder for the tractor. But, thru the magic of Google, I located same and have included it below. Maybe this will help?
Heater without a frost plug.

My 584 which is lot like your tractor has a coolant heater on it that hooks to the back left side of the block and then up to the upper hose area. Should be able to hook up one like that on your tractor. But so far I have never had to use it since my 584 starts very easy if I hold the shut down lever to the half way mark as I am starting it. My 584 was burnt when I go it so many things are still not on it like the dash and all the wiring etc.

For 574 with D-239 Diesel, I recommend tank coolant heater like Old mentioned unless it does not get very cold where you live.
Then the rad hose heater may work. I believe the lower rad hose may have a coil spring inside to prevent it from collapsing so it may take some careful hole cutting to install a lower rad hose heater.

there may be a frost plug in the head on the fly wheel side of the engine but you will have to split it to get it in .its pretty tight in there

I had a 55 Pontiac V8 years ago and I Installed a head bolt heater in it. COuld you get one of those? They must make them for tractors also.It worked very well.

We have a big (300 kw) Cat powered genset that's totally enclosed. We have three magnetic heaters on it. One on each side of the block right below the head off set from each other. And one on the bottom of the oil pan. We've used this setup for several years and haven't had any problems at all. We just leave it plugged in as we need it and after that, it's plugged until next time. funtwohunt

I would also recommend a tank heater, as I have one on my 784 and it is a huge help. 1500 watt unit, around $40 if I remember about 5 years ago.

I owned a 574 for a about a year.It was very cold natured-if it was below 45* it needed ether or plugged in.It had a bad tank heater on it,and I replaced it.I could plug it in and an hour later it was warm enough to start;2 or 3 hours was better though. You could feel the coolant pulsing thru the tank into the head.My 485 that I have now has a lower radiator hose heater. It is not nearly as good, and takes longer to warm the engine. But the 485 is a better starter than a 574,not nearly as cold natured.Mark.
