Qustion for the RED gurus: I have a 706 D with the IHD 282 engine with block casting number 278262R5, I've found another 282 with block casting number 278262R3. Are there any differences in the R3 block that would not allow a easy swap into my 706D. Serial number of my 706 is 1136 S-Y. According to my research it is a 1963 model. All help and comments are appreciated. gobble

The R5 block would be later than the R3. IH made a cylinder sleeve change on the blocks. Early diesel blocks used hand fit wide flange sleeves, and all later blocks have thin flange heavy press fit sleeves. If there's a serial number on each block the sleeve change break was 71778 if I recall correctly. My 560D has a late block from a 656 in it. I have an early 706 block that has the hand fit sleeves for parts, and another engine I removed from the 560 that ran OK, but had light load diesel slobber that I didn't like. I think it has the late sleeves as it was a short block from IH parts purchased in the 80s. Would have to check the serial number.

No problem in bolting in just need correct front and rear motor plates. And correct injection pump for 2300 rpm and 70 hp.
