Rewiring my h farmall with 6 volt positive grd. Generator with just cutout...I looked at several schematics witch shows everything except the ammeters never show the neg or positive side of the gauge . Does the wire that comes from the fuse go to the positive or negative side of ammeter ? And where does the other side go to. And does the metal housing the light switch and ammeter is in need to have a ground to charge.

The fuse wire should go to the ammeter post that's wired to the cutout "BAT" terminal.

As for which ammeter post (+ or -) to use it doesn't matter if they are not marked. Simply connect the wiring to the ammeter whichever way is handiest then "load" the ammeter by turning on the lights or ignition. If the ammeter deflects to the left (discharge) you are all set. However if it deflects to the right, simply swap the wires between the two posts and you'll be good.

And yes, the switch box cover must have a good ground for the generator/cutout to work. I like to run a dedicated ground wire from the light switch base to the grounded battery post - eliminates possible high resistance between the switch and cover, the cover and box, the box and steering post, and the steering post and tranny deck.

Where does the other side of the ammeter go ? Back to neg post which would be supply. ? I don't have a ft style plunger for starter. It has a hand push style so does the other side of ammeter just go to the hot side of the starter switch then

You got it! The other ammeter post should connect to the "hot" side of the starter switch.
