Hello has anyone re powered a tractor (4166) with a 436 to a perkins 354 ?? dose any one make a adapter plate for such a conversion ?? Thanks Bryan
 
Never heard of such. However,I think you will find you will have an underpowered tractor.Also,conversions cost MONEY. Possibly more than fixing the old engine.When I worked in the diesel shop,several tractors/trucks came for an engine swap/conversion.the customer didn't want to spend money on a new engine. Inn EVERY case the swap/repower cost more than just fixing/rebuilding the old engine If you're set on a repower,an 855Cummins is a better choice. There are 'kits' out there for that.
 
Bryan, I realize you are asking about a kit or adapter, but I think Delta’s experience with this can be repeated by many mechanics. Unless you’re extremely talented in machining and fabrication and have nothing to do but throw time at this I would say beware. Rebuild the original engine or find a suitable bolt in runner, IH engines really don’t have that bad of a reputation. Secondly the 855 Cummins swaps have been done to these before and there are folks that “have been there done that.” If those options are to easy you can still obtain pain and suffering by clamping your fingers in a vise. Lol! Sorry had to say it.
 
Hello thanks for the replies I am no stranger to re powering I have re powered my skid loader, as well as my 145 Versatile it now has a 300 + hp Cat in it ( I pull the original implements at about 1/2 throttle ) so I know what I am getting into , as for the engine I have the 354 , and I know it would be less power but it would not in the field for heavy work maybe seeding , I just need a adapter plat or I can have one made , the 466's that I know have a lot of miles on them but maybe cheaper in the long run . Never see a 855 in a 4166 , there would be more engine then tractor . I myself have only worked on one 4166 . that 429 was also used in a TD 20 dozer so if he's having problems finding parts for it then he may want to check out Komotsu (sp) Probable
more TD 20's sold the 4166.
