I need to pull down the motor on the M and word has come to me on a running C 264 engine from a Super M. If the money was right I would stick the 264 in while going through the original 248. The 264 is not represented as rebuilt or repaired just running. I was thinking 350 dollars or so.

Yes, however both buyer and seller get a look at the inside of the block before the money changes hands. I am assuming some risk on that account plus the engine is already out of the donor tractor so it can't really be tested to any degree other than a one minute run. The original tractor had some sort of catastrophic failure in the transmission/ final drive area.

500.00 for complete 264 not running. More if it runs and run well. I sold the block for 350 with the pistons stuck and the head for 500.00 from the machine shop. Just a plane sm head runs 200/250.

Bought mine on ebay, $750 or best offer, he took the $500. offer, runs excellent. Sold the head off the other engine for 275, needed valves, seats and springs, no cracks, guy was happy to get it, couldn't find head anywhere that wasn't cracked.

If your going to buy a 264 engine why not rebuild the 264 and it can be rebuilt to a 281. Makes a nice set up in a M and you could have live hydraulic.

The 248 engine is original to the tractor and the tractor has been on this farm since new dating back to 1942. Therefore I would prefer to go through it and fix the front oil seal, tappet sticking (?), manifold, and whatever else is found along the way. Once done the 264 could stay for a project Super M I have been thinking about or turn around and sell it. I suppose if the cards fell a certain way I would be up for building a 264 into a 281. I did not want to trust the 248 as it was this past year and could have used it to pick up some stones I always see while out spraying. The M gets down the row more comfortably than the JD 4250 with 20.8 X 38 tires when it comes to loader work. I don't think going by what I see that the used parts market is as hot as it was 5 plus years ago on 1940's and early 1950's tractors. If I am going to go 650 dollars plus I might as well look for a complete parts tractor. Perhaps a Super M with poor sheet metal, poor tires and rims, etc. to get an engine then go from there to do a Super M project.
