Hello all,
I am considering purchasing a 756 and am wondering if there are any specific things to check for besides the normal. I will be going from an 8N to this so I am pretty green. Did I say pretty green? Make that a lot green! Here's what I am starting with, please feel free to add to the list! Also, if there is already a buyers guide out there, please share! Thank you! Oh, gas engine.
1. Engine smoke
2. Oil leaks
3. Clutch
4. Play in shifter
5. TA operation
6. Wheel bearings and brakes
7. Three point and PTO operation
8. remote hydro
9. Check all fluids level and color
10. Play in steering

Wear on the clutch pedal. This includes both the foot contact grid, and the side to side wear. The TA should allow a wide open high gear start (safely) then a crisp shift to direct. The cables and wires should be at least neat and not spaghetti. Jim

When shifting the tA,shift it 'hard and fast'.Shifting slow and smooth is the hardest thing for a TA . Shift it like you drive a Detroit diesel. Like slam your hand in the door.Do not EVER hesitate in the middle, shift right on through.

A 756 is a fine tractor. you will love it. I have a 756Diesel with a turbo. 13,000 hrs and still going strong. Bought it in '84,started with it.It's now joined by a 1256 and 1456. But the '7' will never leave the farm. It's kind of a favorite.

Don't drop it in park while rolling -at all-, unless you like not having park, and want to learn how to rebuild a transmission. If you're mechanical at all, a sloppy shifter isn't a big deal, fairly easy fix top to bottom.

Thanks guys, going to look at it Saturday. He says the TA works as it should but I will check. I also will be very nervous if the fluids are fresh.
