when replacing gauges, (water, oil , amp) is there a good place to get them , since all makers aren't the same , which ones are better than the others. period correct faces dont matter much to me , as long as there top quality gauges.

Your local Case-IH dealer will probably have them. They might have the IH logo, but will not be correct otherwise. A good auto parts store, such as NAPA, should also have some generic gauges. It seems that most of the "correct" restoration gauges are NOT of the best quality, and may work or may not. The generic gauges are of much better quality. Personally, I do not care what the gauge looks like so long as it works and is accurate.

After being disappointed with several
repro gages I began using black face
Teleflex marine gages.

Found them to be accurate and
absolutely reliable. And they are
weather tight so they don't fog up,
etc. Well worth the few extra
dollars!

I bought some high quality gauges from a guy from the Netherlands after getting tired of crap gauges breaking and being inaccurate. He is an IH collector and the gauges look pretty close and have been very impressive to me so far. From what I understand, he is big in Europe. He hand makes them and they are nice and accurate. I emailed him and he sent me pictures of them and I bought 2 temp gauges, 1 oil pressure and 1 ammeter for roughly 200 shipped to WI. I thought that was good too, considering these are way better than the gauges I had tried including a temp gauge from CIH. These are also backlit which is nice.

I just sent him an email from the above web page.

Ha-Ha..... You said GOOD auto parts store and NAPA in the same sentence. My local NAPA store manager
couldn't find his butt with either hand. He tells me the flexible brake lines I had to advance order were
US made and the boxes and parts had Made in China all over them. Said he had to see those hoses to tell
which clips held them in place at the brake caliper. When I picked the hoses up he said they didn't carry
the clips. How many out and out LIES can he tell me? Bought a keyed starter switch several years ago.
Made in China, failed in 2-3 years sitting in the shop not being started. Buy another new China starter
switch, It's junk right out of the package, surprised I didn't destroy the starter or flywheel ring gear.
You guys may tolerate their JUNK but I'm done with them!

Anyhow, Company called Precision Tractor Parts (800-245-3774) sells IH guages made by Rochester Guages, was
a former IH supplier they say. When I worked at Farmall, they all came from Stewart-Warner. Another
excellent source would be Autometer guages from Summit Racing. They have a Traditional series, 2-1/16" that
would look great on an H or M. Stewart-Warner would be a good source also.

im gonna just get the autometer gauges , i use them on all my classic trucks and cars , just thought there was other ones everybody else uses on there tractors

Dr. Evil, I had to laugh at your comments about your NAPA store. The man isn't lying - the modern moral-less society and education system does not have lies... it's your opinion, after all it's as good as anyone else no matter how stupid. It's all relative.

The afternoon/evening clerk at my NAPA store grew up on a farm and has a rebuilt A. As a result, I get the correct parts.
