Friday i had to drive an hour to longview just to get 14 5/8x2 carriage bolts for my shanks for my cultivator. got new sweeps and want new bolts. not one store here in henderson had 5/8ths carriage bolts that includes the green and orange dealers.

found an oil field industrial supply in longview that had all i needed. $1 each

do any of y'all have problems like this or is this just an East Texas problem??

You got a bargain, but the gas i am sure hurt you a tad. We got a hardware store chain called Mac's Hardware, they got bolts there, that wont quite.

I have found almost anything in the bolt, nut, washer, etc. hardware line available from our local Fastenal store either in stock or can be ordered on-line and picked up at the local store or sent to my home. Look closely and you will fine the option of Made in USA hardware at a somewhat increased cost in most cases. For tractor and implement use you should consider Grade 5 hardware which Fastenal stocks. Don't know how large Henderson, Texas is in size but in our town of almost 20,000 here in Missouri it would have been an easy fine at one or more or the farm and home supply stores in this area. At least you found what you needed, Hal.

Here you go for next time. I did not go as far as to see if they showed what you were looking for was shown in stock online. As someone mentioned the price of your gas and figure your time against a lower price to see what is the best deal for you.
Your local Fastenal

your right i should be using plow bolts; however, here in east texas plow bolts are unheard of so im using carriage until i can order some plow bolts. as you can see from below, the sweeps that came with the cultivator are worn out.

Go to an Industrial Eq. store. Very common bolt on bolt on cutting edges. You may have to get 2 1/4 or 2 1/2" which are more common. John Deere part # is PB625200, PB for plow bolt, 625 for .625 (5/8") and 200 for length (2").
2 1/2" would be PB625250. Used to sell for about 65-75 cents with the nut. I am an old JD Ind. partsman. Cat will also have them.

Those look like standard 7/16 bolt holes, check agrisupply for bolts.

where you buy sweeps should have the bolts.

We can buy them at the stores here but agri supply is convenient as I do not have to run to the store..

(quoted from post at 14:44:36 12/10/17) Fastenal didn't have carriage bolts that big

Thanks to Barnyard for the link to Fastenal, not only does Fastenal have all kinds of carriage bolts but they also have plow bolts. Just put "plow bolts" in the Fastenal search field. So someone did a very poor job of looking. I don't think you should expect anyone these days to know a plow bolt, how many people fix ag plowing equip these days? You better be able to look this stuff up for yourself or ask on forums like this.

the local fastenal dealer is just around the corner from where i work
so i went there. asked the wo man at the counter for 5/8ths carriage bolts and she told me that they did not have any. asked it she could order them, she typed on the computer and told me not in stock. what was i to do tell her she needs to find another job? no i walked out and went some where else and did business with with someone who knew bolts.

ya, i need plow bolts but good luck finding them in e.texas so i use what i can find. i live in the oil patch not the cotton patch

Yea...I'd say that black riverbottom land has wore those sweeps down to the nub. Or is clay where you are? I've seen both when I hunted in Anderson County on the Neches.
