Farmall 706 - no steering or brakes

This tractor ran an auger about a week. Went to move it and I noticed the red oil light was on solid. Shut the tractor down thinking it was engine oil pressure, but there wasn't any knocking and engine oil was full. Remembered the MCV on the left side of the transmission had a pressure sensor on it as well. Started the engine back up and as I thought there was no steering or brakes. Had things to do so I walked away for a couple days and it was very cold if the temperature would be a possible problem. Came back later and same problem, but I did move it towards the shed without power steering or brakes. Going down a short incline everything powered up (was warmer). Steering and brakes came back - worked 100%. Well, that rules out the drive gear coming off. Put it back on the auger and finished putting beans away. Was going to put it in the shed yesterday and the same problem occurred. No steering or brakes. Put in a new filter today. About a quart or so of oil came out when the cover was taken off. New filter in - no change. Drove it on the incline - no change. Added enough oil to bring it up to low/full lines on the dip stick, but no more and still no steering or brakes. Might be a tad low, but at least up to the bottom line. Whats next????? Slightly pressurize the transmission filler hole??? Over filling the transmission?? One note - I did raise the auger (Westfield with a big lift cylinder) when setting the auger to the bin which may have lowered the oil level which I wouldn't think it would be all that much. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like ice in the fluid.Take the filter out and fire it up. If all is well shut it done and put the filter back in. The cure is getting it warm and changing the fluid and filter. Only an opinion. Good luck.

The internal suction passages can and do develop air leaks.(usually an Oring in a difficult to replace location) filling the Hytran 5 gallons over full is the common permanent solution. It covers the leak and hurts nothing. Jim

Take the plug out below oil sending unit start it until oil come out then shut off install plug then try it sound like pump lost prime try this it sound I weak and going bad

Well if you are at the LOW level line best just dump five gallon to it . YOu probably have a suction leak on the pick up tube in the rear end and even if your at the full mark add a full five gallon to it and see if this helps . The MCV pump may be getting a little weak and along with a suction leak you can have this problem . also did you install a new gskt when changing the filter . One more thing when changing the hyd filter look at the filter cover and check it for flatness . If it is not flat then can suck air but still not leak .

If/when you remove that plug, look inside further and you will see a slotted orfice which may hve to be removed also. Have had to do that many times. After oil squirts out install orfice and plug.

Sometimes that plug will not come out and you could have a bad sump ckeck valve and have found a stuck flow divider valve and a stuck steering flow control valve
