I'm slow to catch on to some of this but when changing out the MCV pump, am I correct that the MCV "valve" should be rebuilt also? As I understand it, these are two separate parts.

I see MCV pumps in the 250.00 (import) - 400.00 range & gasket/ O-ring sets for around 80.00.

Any help is always appreciated.

Always a good idea to go through the mcv when you are replacing the pump. You often find some light scoring on the valves and hard O-rings and seal. Just be sure to be super clean and keep track of what goes where and use proper gaskets and O-rings as some look the same but your kit may contain extra gaskets for tractors with or without a TA and also extra one for later tractors that use a spacer between mcv and tractor. Be sure to check that little sump check valve down in lower right hand corner on the tractor. Some have that valve eliminated and a solid plug in the hole but if it has the plastic valve and little spring, make sure it seats good on the inner seat. I am not a real fan of replacing all the springs unless system has been severely overheated. I think the original springs are better than the replacement ones.

On a little different aspect, I used to try to get the parts man to give me the O-rings and gaskets I needed separate from a kit because the kit contains so many gaskets you don't use it was considerably less expensive to get each separate. Of course, they didn't want to do it that way so what do I know. I had a box full of extra gaskets over the years. New owners of dealership had parts dept go through my box and list each gasket and put back in stock. There were several hundred dollars worth. I figured the customer already paid for them and I would just use them if I happened to need one. They didn't figure that way.
