Farmall F12 Oil Filter

I purchased a new oil filter element for my 1937 F12, but when I undid the filter bolt and removed the cover I found an original Purolator metal filter. It says Spacing .003.
I have not attempted to run the motor yet. There is oil in the sump, which is remarkably clean. The oil filter smells strongly of kerosene. Should I clean and reuse the metal element or just keep it as a historical relic? Thanks in advance.

It's amazing! I just acquired a 1934 F-12 to restore/rehab and I also found a metal filter. I, too, will change it out for a paper one.

Clean it up and put up on the shelf for display. You need to use a new clean filter as you will NEVER get all the dirt/crap out of the old one. Get a replacement at NAPA. #1172,same as a Farmall C,H...
