Cub with two snow blades attached(pics)

Kennebunksawmill ask the question;

(Do you have a front & mid blade on that Cub? Can you post a couple more pics? I've never thought of that...I'd like to do the same with ours, thank you)
Yes I do, the center blade is a 6'width that I salvaged from a 3pt setup. Both blades operate indendently, and have hyd. angle control.

I am not a big fan of Cubs but I like your modifications. Even like the cup holder and hydraulic oil filter. Nice job.

I'll bet you broke the two foot long linkage rod from the center rockshaft to the pivoting angle iron that lifts the front plow. That is probably the reason for the hydraulic cylinder.

At that point, you realized the center rockshaft was free and decided to use it to lift another implement.

Looks like you have four spool valves plus the Cub Hydra-Touch for five functiions. I can only count three functions. Why not make the center blade power down? You could also lock the last spool valve back and send power to a CharLynn for PS.

Wondering why you removed the rear wheel weights after installing those nice chains?

Hi Wardner,

If you look carefully you will see this Cub also has a fast hitch that has its own independent cylinder...

1. Front blade lift
2. Front blade angle
3. Belly blade angle
4. Fast hitch lift

...and quite frankly, he doesn't need any added weight with all that stuff bolted on!

No didn't break the rod to the front blade. Had two blades on the tractor for some time, but would have to chain up one blade when using the other. Two of the valves control the front blade up/down, and also angle. TC controls the center blade, no need for down pressure here. One of the other spool valves control the angle on the center blade. The 4th spool valve controls the fast hitch cyl. The rear weights are still mounted, I reversed the rear wheels to get a little wider stance for stability.

Power is the same as before modifications. Works great. Last winter shortly after installing the double-ring chains I pulled a Fed-X box van with duel rear wheels back onto the driveway that had slid off into the yard. Had about 6" of snow at the time. I was wishing for a lower gear that day. Those chains dig right down to the gravel quickly. I had to jerk the tow strap a couple of times. The driver was very grateful to be back on the road again.

I have a Super A that I've often thought of doing something similar to (although, perhaps not quite so extensive) and I'm wondering how you have your filter plumbed so that it doesn't get subjected to pressure? Thanks, Sam

The filter is plumbed into the oil return line between the 4 spool valve and the TC tank. The blue hyd. hose is only rated at 300PSI. BTW the TC tank is the only reservoir on this setup and supplies the oil for all 4 remote hyd. cyls. plus the TC cyl. It must be kept full though.

Thanks for picture and sorry to be obtuse but I still can't make it work in my head. Where is the oil that flows through the filter coming from. By the look of the two hoses you have attached to your bypass block I'd say the fluid comes from the pump to the valve bank and then back into the touch control unit through the bypass block? Sam

The oil going thru the filter is oil returning from the remote cyls. to the reservoir. The valve spool is equipped with a power beyond port with high pressure oil continuing to the TC lift. This puts the 4 spool remote valve as primary, and the TC cyl. as secondary. If you study this schematic a little bit I think it will make some sense.

Thank you, that makes perfect sense now. As soon as I saw 'power beyond' come up on the screen the light came on. That certainly is quite the setup you've got there. Sam

Yes it is, just lightly modified. Had to tweak the bends a little which lets the muffler hang slightly lower with a modified muffler bracket.

This is not a very good picture, but is all I have found so far. Both blades are mounted normally except I made an adjustable link for the front blade so it can be adjusted to the same level as the middle blade when they both lower. I may have some better pictures, and if I find them I will post them. It is not rigged for snow yet this year.
