McCormick Deering 10 20

What was the area in front of the brake lever, floor pan used for? Looks like a place to mount a battery! Where they thinking electric start ?

With steel wheels workin dirt its good to have as much fender as possible,
Mccormick- Deering standard tread tractors of that time were built that way
simply because of that. What is interesting is that the early 15-30's had the short
fenders on both sides, then went to long left fender short right for the pulley, then
the late 22-36 went back to both short fenders.
That place you mention was used for manby electric light conversion battery locations.
