.806 Hydraulics

I have a 1964 806. Installed a new hydraulic pump about a year and half ago. Everything fine till two weeks ago. I only use it for pulling a 15' batwing rotory cutter. I has gotten to where the wings struggle to raise. By quickly moving the remote lever from neutral to raise position about 25 times the wings will raise, a couple of inches at a time. Yes, I have changed the hydraulic fluid and filter. No change. 3 point works smooth, though I haven't put a load on it. Checked hoses etc. I need some advise please. I can hear the pump working also. I have no way to check the pressure either. Thanks

Do you have to hold the lever when trying to raise implement. If you do , and it sounds like it to me, you have a restriction problem which is most likely the coupler. If the system is not able to raise the load the due to flow or pressure from pump, your lever would stay latched just like it does when you pull the lever without engine running. Or, another possibility is that the lever linkage is so worn or loose or blocked with dirt that it will not move spool all the way.

Put a pressure gauge on the outlet see what pressure is and make sure the draft and hitch lever is not down Position you could have a blown oring on pump houseing

I agree with Pete, the sealing balls/tips in the hydraulic hose couplers or quick disconnects may be to blame. Sometimes this is agrivated by the male and female not being matched some have ball releases and some have pointed tips. I also wonder if the cylinders might be equipped with pressure activated restricters on the wing cylinder? These slow down cylinder speed but also help to keep a wing from dropping fast if a hose fails. If it has these maybe one is malfunctioning?

Coupler pressure should be at least 1500, as that is what that model was set for at the relief valve. Could be higher if the relief has been changed to a newer one.
Try different and matching coupler halves.
Fill 5 gallon over in transmission/hydraulic level.
Remove cover over front under seat check if it is full of dirt and for oil leaking. The detent deal is of no real consequence since they could have been adjusted to any different level. We removed ours.
Also check for broken pins or missing cotter pins holding the linkage under the seat front. Can be seen when checking for the dirt and oil leaking.
When changing filter did you for sure get the tube put in good for the connection between the filter and pump ,was the o-ring in good condition or changed? Was screen partially plugged or washed out so it's clean? Was it put in the right way or backwards?
Not trying to attack just questions since we can not see it from here.
Also when started you could loosen the bleeder plug on the pump and see if you get oil spray from there when it is loosened up some. You will probably need a new o-ring for the plug after that if you do loosen it under pressure.
If non of these things solve your problem try your relief valve. The previously mentioned are the easiest and cheapest things to check first.

Yes I did notice that one coupler had a pointed tip on it, the others were the ball type. Should I get a new matching set? Also that one had started leaking somewhat.

Thanks so much for the useful information. I noticed one of the couplers was leaking. Last time I used it. Never has before. One coupling is tipped, the other three are ball type.
