Transmission

I have a 49 cub. I think the clutch may be wore out but not sure. You can hear the the winding when it's in neural and when you push the clutch in all the way it makes a terrible noise then the winding goes away then you able to put it in gear. If you hold it all the way down it will continue to make the noise till you let up on the clutch some. If you don't put the clutch all the way down then you can't put it in gear and it continues to wind. Any suggestions on what to do?

The noise is probably the throwout bearing or carrier hitting the pressure plate. The problem may be adjustment of the fingers too low. It is possible, not easy, to readjust them through the hand hole below the clutch.

There are a lot of details on how to do that on farmallcub.com. Do a search.

If there is a grease fitting for the throw out bearing try greasing it . Cheap and easy to start. Should be either a tube with a fitting out the side, or out the bottom. Might have to take a cover off the bottom for it.

Take a look in through the access hole on the bottom of the clutch housing while the engine is running. You may be able to see what is going on from there.

I'm not familiar with a "winding" noise. Can you describe it?
