Farmall A

Looking to purchase a farmall A with a belly mower. Looking for your thoughts. Plan one mowing heavy grass/weeds that I
don't want to put my zero turn in. Is this a good idea? Do they cut well? Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

They are great for that purpose. I would insist on a over running clutch in the PTO to keep out of trouble stopping when the mower drives the wheels. But they have plenty of power, and handy. Jim

They don't turn real short. Need lots of room
to turn on the ends.
Cubs turn lots closer than the A.

Belley mowers for the A are not made for heavy tall mowing. They are finish mowers for your lawn. There is no need for a over running device on them. If your zero mower will not mow there neither will the finish mower on the A will do it. Coming from an owner of a finishing mower since 1965 and i mow a couple of Acres.

Get a Super C with brush hog. Has power and manuverability.

X3 what Gene Bender said. I have a Woods L306 under an H. If my zero turn won't go through it, neither will the belly mower. In fact, the zero turn is MORE effective because it will go much slower.

It's a bad idea, because you don't have any live PTO, and two fast of 1st gear.

we do not know what heavy grass and weeds, might mean to you. the A has good power and will cut lots of grass. i would rather put the a into heavy cutting than zero turn. however, having said that, are the grass and weeds heavy enough to warrant a bush hog?

I have a Woods L59 Belly mower on a Super A and I can cut some pretty heavy and tall weeds with it. I mean weeds that are about 18 inches tall. It also does a pretty good job as a finishing mower. I'm very satisfied with it.

I used a belly mower under a farmall 140 in tall grass and had to drive in 1st gear. Blades were sharp and belt was tight. I just let grass get too tall. I'm for bigger tractor and bush hog.
