300U hydraulic pilot valve

What is it and where is it? I can't get out there today, but will try tomorrow. Want to check out what Jim N suggested in the prior post on engine drag. Thanks!

I believe it is in the safety regulator valve block between the rearmost (hitch) control valve and the reservoir. The on line parts diagram points it out.

Thanks sir! It occurs to me, if I did my job right, I have all three manuals down in the file cabinet for this tractor. Don't do me much good if I never look at them! :)

be careful if you disassemble it the big spring has tension against the cover. you'll need two bolts a little longer to reinstall the cover

Speaking of drilling, what technique do you use to ensure that the tiny drill bit will not snap off in the orifice the moment the drill bit touches the metal?

I've had that problem with drilling out idle jets on small engines. Ruined every one I tried. The moment the bit touches the jet, SNAP! No matter how careful and slow I am about approaching the jet with the drill. No matter how fast or slow I run the Dremel tool. Then the bit is stuck in the orifice and won't come out, and I have to buy a new part.

The jets I have drilled have been brass. I've always used a hand held driver with a number bit. Doesn't take much to drill brass.

I always use a hand held pin vise when drilling jets. Only
problem you should have drilling the orfice is if it happens to be
the one with hardened seat. They were only used in late model 4 &
560 series when IH realized the check ball used in those models
would peen the orfice shut. They quit using check ball all
together later.

Stop at a welding supply store, and buy a hand drill tip cleaner. They are about $15.00 or less, and work great for small work.
