Td6 fuel issue

Hi. I have fuel leaking into oil. Wondering how I know if scavenging valve or seal on aux pump. Thank you. Scavenger valve seems closed when tractor off. When running no fuel exits the drain but when shut off fuel pours out. So I just shut off tank so when tractor stops fuel stops.

pretty uncommon for the diesel to get into the oil pan. i have run those engines a lot with leaking pump seals. the oil level must be drained down to the full plug before starting tractor. once pump oil is contaminated with diesel i change the injection pump oil. just repeat the procedure. its not a big deal. unless you have a seal that is totally shot and diesel is pouring into the injection pump. pretty much every gas start diesel i have seen has diesel going into the injection pump oil. but if you are letting the diesel fill the oil compartment it must be running out the front brg and into the crankcase.

OK there two different injection pumps for the TD series one is made by international and the other is made by Bosch. I prefer the Bosch pump over the International for the very reason you have described.
When the seals weaken Bosch pumps vent any excess fuel out the backside of the pump and drips on outside of the engine block. Where the International pump drips any excess fuel into the engine crankcase. the only way to stop this from happening is to rebuild or replace injection pump.
A few drops of fuel in the crankcase every once in awhile shouldn't hurt anything, however, if too much fuel contaminates the oil it will make the oil lose its lubricating properties.

Good Luck

Sounds like there is a leak in the return line standpipe in the tank, and fuel is coming back that way. Disconnect the return line from the tank and see if there is fuel coming back that way, or if it is coming from the pump. It almost has to be the tank return.

huh? totally not so, the fuel leaking from the transfer pump seal leaks into the injection pump. that is why you drain the injection pump oil down down to the full oil level. it does not leak into the crankcase. it is the cause of a little seal shaft on the transfer pump. nothing to do with the injection pump. sure dont know where you got this info.

"i have fuel leaking into oil" well maybe you should say which oil you are talking about? the injection pump oil?... or the crankcase oil? sure would save a lot of confusion here.

If memory serves ... when fuel leaks into the inj. pump it will make oil in the pump until it overflows out the back of the pump (Bosch pumps) or into the crankcase oil (HI Inj. pumps). I have the same problem on my Bosch pump.

On my tractor the diesel fills the injection pump then overflows into crankcase

I would say for sure the front seal is bad in your injection pump. And your pump is filling up either through the transfer pump seal, scavaging valve or the return line. Shutting off the fuel tank should stop it unless it is leaking from the return line.

On my SMD, my injection pump kept filling with fuel when shut off with a fresh rebuilt pump. This was with the fuel shutoff closed. It did not leak into the crankcase though. I ended up figuring out it only did it if the tank was over half way full. I found the return line stand pipe in the tank was wore through half way up where it enters the baffle inside the tank.
