Lining a Diesel Fuel Tank

Is there any good reliable material to line a diesel fuel tank that doesn't react to diesel fuel and will prevent rust?

well maybe you should fill us in on what u have. must be a reason they are refusing.?? maybe its a rusted out piece of junk i would refuse it also.

You might check Red Kote instructions on the can. I used that stuff in a gas tank, works well. But either it is or is not suitable for diesel, as rated by the manufacturer. O'Reilly's.

It is not rusted out. They won't even look at it.They will line a gas tank but not a diesel tank.

Why not let shop clean it out and you take it home and get dry inside and coat yourself. It's not hard to do and Red Kote can be used in diesel tanks.

Here is what Red-Kote says about Diesel fuel tanks.
"Diesel Fuel Tanks - A brand new tank intended for
use with diesel may be lined prior to use. A tank that
has had diesel fuel in it will need to be sand blasted
prior to using Red-Kote. Diesel fuel leaves a paraffin
coating inside the tank that Red-Kote will not stick to.
There is no known cleaning method to remove this
paraffin coating other than sand blasting. If you choose
to line a diesel tank you do so at your own risk."

So this may explain why they do not want to mess with diesel tanks.

Yes, there is. Several years ago John Deere had some issues with the plastic fuel tanks. Don't remember exactly what it was. Something to do with the internal flashings breaking off and plugging the fuel line outlet or something like that. The cure was to empty the tank and pour in a liquid tank liner. "Big A" auto parts was one source. Probably can get it from John Deere also, and maybe other auto parts stores. I don't remember the name of the stuff, but if you ask for diesel fuel tank liner, you will probably find it.

mine was hot tanked at a rad shop, not sandblasted. no problems with it. sure dont want to sandblast thin metal!
