350 Utility Diesel

Have a few questions on this tractor. Have IT manual but that doesn't answer.
1. Tractor has power steering. There is a pipe plug on the left top of steering unit. I'm assuming this should take gear oil since power steering
should be sealed off from steering gears? How high should oil be?
2. Are these heads noted to crack. I'm taking it to machine shop to check. Tractor was running ok but started running rough and bubbles where
coming out of head gasket. Water was up in rocker arm area.

Thanks for your help.

Not much cracking of the casting. the Continental diesel is pretty mush an orphan with very expensive parts (that are difficult to find) They start hard in all weather, but need a whiff of starting fluid in winter. The old starting ether was very rough on them, and they usually had some rough treatment. They are efficient, and run well when running. If broken, they are a money pit. Jim

These heads can crack. Dad had his F-350D head welded 40 years ago. I don't recall exactly where it cracked anymore. Busted cranks seem to be a bigger issue with this Continental, but he never broke his.

Gary(va) RE Question # 1. There is pipe plug that you fill to plug level with 80W.
Higher up there is another plug with a small hole in it. Acts as a breather I believe.
