560 battery cover sheet metal

Have a used battery cover coming, Dad made his own cover out of a thin piece of sheeting. Might as well make the tractor whole again.

I know there are special thumb screws for this, they aren't included with the cover. Is the nut that the thumb screw goes into part of the cover or is it part of the bracket behind it? I assume part of the bracket. Also, what is the thumb screw size? Or should I just dig through the bold bin and find the right size bolt and forget about the thumb screws?

That depends on how important "correctness" is to you.
Otherwise, the S vendor has them in their catalog, as well as the retaining nuts for them. It states that the threads are 1/4"-20

I'm not too terribly concerned about correctness. But if thumb screws are easiest to access the battery when needed then maybe that's what I should get. Saves from hunting down a wrench when needed. I see them listed, pricey little devils!

the thread is a course 1/4" bolt. probably need a 3/8 washer over the 1/4' washer as the holes in the covers are big.

Thanks Rustred, maybe the piece Dad made is held in place with the thumb screws. I don't know for sure, the tractor is a good ways from me right now. But at the least I'll have some spare bolts to use. He had coffee cans of spare nuts, bolts and washers in the shop.
