IH464 Gas - Clutch Squeal

Good Evening,

I am fairly new to my tractor. I have spent the last month cleaning the "gunk" off of it to get a better "view" of the parts and pieces.

I appear to have developed a "squealing" noise when I press the clutch of my IH464 Gas tractor. I don't recall having that sould earlier in the spring or last year when I acquired the tractor. I have only started and driven it a few times throughout the year to keep the battery running.

I have read that there may be a clutch housing inspection plate/port? Perhaps the bearing may be stuck from sitting with little use and may just need to be "tweaked" to break free?

Any help locating the clutch inspection plate would be greatly appreciated.

Does it squeal all the time or only when you push the pedal? If it squeals all the time that may mean your clutch is likely not adjusted properly, and has worn the throwout bearing out.

Going forward, you need to purchase a reprint of the owner's manual for that tractor and read it cover to cover. This site sells reprints of manuals for many tractors, and they don't have it there are other manual vendors out there. Worst case you can get one from a CaseIH dealer.

For some reason a lot of people complain about the $20 it costs to get a manual, but that's really just a drop in the bucket even if you got the tractor for $500, especially compared against the cost of repairs that could have been avoided if you had the owner's manual to refer to before you broke something.

Typically the inspection plate is on the bottom of the tractor, approximately directly beneath where the linkage for the clutch pedal enters the body of the tractor. It should have a hole or easy access cover for greasing the throwout bearing. Your manual would indicate this in the lubrication section.

Hi, inspection plate is on bottom of bell howsing, it is a flat plate held on by 4 bolts IIRC.
Probably the clutch release bearing(throwout) is bad. The bearing is sealed and no fitting to grease.
DON'T use it too much or it will wear the fingers off the pressure plate and you will be replacing it as well.
Just did one on my brother's 684 (same tractor but bigger engine) but his did not squeal and wrecked the pressure plate so did complete clutch/pressure plate and bearings.
