Did the early cubs have a magneto or distributor

Magneto. Battery ignition wasn't available until 1950.

it has not been run in about 8 years but was in a good dry shed is it possibale the mag wood still be good

If you can hear the impulse trip, it may very well still be good. Mine sit in a tobacco barn for 13 years. Never touched it other than cleaning the points. Pull a plug and give it a try...

As DC said, shouldn't be a problem. Points that need a couple passes with a point file would probably be the only problem.

I agree. Pop of the distributor cap, clean the points with a points file, put it back together, and give it a try.
