Voltage Regulator

Sounds like the ammeter is wired backward. With the engine stopped turn on ignition or lights. If the ammeter now shows charge it is hooked up backward. Swapping wires on the two ammeter posts will correct it.

Point of info: Polarizing applies to GENERATOR, not the regulator.

The confusion comes because the instructions with a new regulator (type A) tell you to polarize by jumpering from BAT terminal on regulator to ARM or GEN terminal on the regulator.
