SO tell me the model of a McCormick Deering tractor with a "narrow front", or tricycle? I have not seen one yet? Thanks.

The 'Farmall' is the only model with a narrow/tricycle/dual front. McCormick/McCormick-Deering;International were usually 'wheatland',orchard,or industrial and were not offered with a narrow(rowcrop) front.

ok and thanks -good to know. I was asking because of one of the members on here told me that McCormick made an 8-12 that was narrow front. Thanks.

Yea,IH made a 8-16 in the early days(about 1910). It was refered to as 'Titan' or 'Mogol'.But it really wasn't a true narrow front. The first true narrow rowcrop front was in 1923 on the original Farmall.Commonly known as the 'Regular'.

the Titan, Mogal and 8-16 are three totally different tractors. titan had 2 cyl's. mogal had 1 cyl. 8-16 had 4 cyl's.

i have not seen one either because there is none... they are called Farmall's which come in a narrow front or adjustable wide front. just like this site being called Farmall which is not correct, it should be called international harvester then everything falls into that catagory like mccormick deering and farmall.

All Farmalls starting with the Farmall regular were available with a narrow front end for a long time - maybe up to the 70's.You could have either a narrow front end, a wide front end or the single tire front end you mentioned. A tractor with a narrow front end would turn a lot shorter than a wide front. I don't know what the advantage to the single tire front end was. Lots of the old Farmalls out there with narrow front ends.

it's a "single" front. One tire mounted in a fork.Single fronts were common in furrow irrigation. the one front tire would fit down a furrow. There are a lot of single fronts here in my area of western Colorado. In the Midwest where there is enough rain where irrigation is not nessasary is where you find the 'tricycle'/narrow.

The names get confusing, but there were 2 Farmalls with adjustable "wide" fronts.(Letter series era) Delta Red pretty much summed it up though.

There were all kinds of crazy prototype tractors back in the 1910's and 1920's as people worked to come up with what became the modern row crop tractor. I believe a chapter in the CH Wendel book covers this and shows some of the crazy contraptions.

Ok.....were kinda getting off the subject here; my question was " a member on here told me there was a "McCormick Deering tractor with a narrow front end" ? Thanks.

The single front tire on an M was great with a mounted corn picker because it let you turn sharper.

C/SC;H/SH;M/SM were all available in whatever front that was needed. And they could be changed out easily by the farmer. Some farmers changed fronts several times a year as was needed. The A/SA was only made in adjustable wide. The B was only available in single or narrow. There was also a 'BN'. It had a narrower rear end housing for narrower rows. Then there were guys who would make 'frankentractors' that used parts of both A and B.So you could have a B with a wide,or an A with a narrow. Are we confused yet?

(quoted from post at 10:19:32 10/27/17) . . . The A/SA was only made in adjustable wide. . . .
he adjustable wide front on the A/Super A and the Cub was an option. Standard was a non-adjustable wide front.

No McCormickDeering tractors had or offered narrow fronts. As was said the M.D. tractor was the 'standard'(wheatland;industrial;orchard) line up.Only 'Farmall' was offered in narrow. Your friend was in error.

All Farmalls were under the McCormick-Deering name until 1949 when "Deering" was dropped. This image (22782) of a 1929 poster from WHS makes the point quite emphatically.
