Farmall 460 Steering

The 460 had a little front end wobble so I decided to dig into it today! Here is what I found. Broken off tooth on the upper bolster and broken tooth on the worm gear!
How do you think this happened? Does anybody here have any ideas on where to get the parts? I currently have four salvage yards looking but, I'm still waiting for a call back from them.

The worn teeth on the gear (and I am sure on the rack as well) allow tire motion to slap back and forth. Hitting a good sized rock can snap a tooth Jim

Think the 560 is the same. A sudden shock load like Jim said could do that. I have a burned parts 560 that may have a good shaft in if you don't find one. I'll bet Bates Corp has some too.

You can usually buy them all assembled here in MN WI. Threw the last one away for scrap last year. Tractor parts ASAP is large and should have one. Graves tractor salvage Zumbro falls I think has a couple and the last time I was at Henderson MN salvage he had some. I got mine from there.

"Shock load" is just a nice way of saying that someone ran into something with that tractor. Could be as simple as hitting an unexpectedly rough dead furrow, or a woodchuck hole hidden by tall grass. Could be the guy was "four-wheelin'" around in the pasture, or just plain rammed it into something solid.

Thank you guys for all of information! I ended up buying the whole front cast iron piece with the lower bolster and the worm gear in it. I bought it from Worthington ag parts for $450
Hopefully this one will last!
