I have a IH 544 gas RC Model F 544 Ser.# 11137 I tried to order a intake manifold gasket and they asked if the engine was a 200 or 220, how do I tell what it is?
also when I had the engine rebuilt they garage couldn't find a distributor for it so they installed a Presto lite Distributor I think it is from a Ford or Massey and I am going through Point/Rotor /Cap after about 20-30 hours..at 75 bucks a change getting expensive, any idea why they are not lasting? Could the intake gasket being bad cause this?

I am having a problem finding a intake manifold gasket, any leads?

The engine model will be cast into the block on one side, a 4-digit code starting with a C.

99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the time it will be a C200. I have never heard of a "220."

Don't know who you are going to for your parts, but try a CaseIH dealer if you haven't already. Generally they are slightly more knowledgeable than your average NAPA guy, and they have the factory parts books on the computer to look things up.

So why is it points, cap and rotor are all going bad at the same time? Explain what is going wrong
with them? If points go bad that does not mean the cap and rotor require replacement. I could see
how an out of place button contact on the rotor could ruin a cap as well. The quality of the parts
being installed could be a factor in how long the ingnition components last, the points in particular.
Does the coil say ?12 volt no external resistor?? If not you need further investigate if the right coil is
being used. The wrong coil can shorten point life. When the points are installed is the dist cam
wiped clean and lubed with a BB sized speck of grease. Proper lube will help the points last
longer. As far a IH parts, you can have the parts book right on line. See attached link.

The one 674 we have was bought cheap by my dad because it did not run. This was 25+ years ago. It had around 1800 hours on it. Keep in mind a 674 has the same engine, a C200. Dad found the points burned. Replaced them, they burned again after a short time. Did this about 3 times, then dad installed a ballast resistor before the coil. Been that way since then, 25 years. Aside from regular wear and tear, the ignition parts don't get replaced now in the short intervals like it did.
