Farmall M Serial Number

I have a 1951 Farmall "M" tractor and I noticed that the serial number on the frame of the tractor is different than the engine serial number. Did the tractors come from the factory with the same serial number on the engine and the frame? Has my engine block been changed? Can someone enlighten me as to how the serial numbers worked? Thanks for any response!

No engines and tractor numbers spread out after diesel engines went in M chassis. Last 3 numbers of your M will probably be the same on both. Most 51 M are 10,000, 11,000, 12,000 apart. Maybe a few 13,000 near end of 51.

Thanks so much for the info.! That makes sense, as my engine and frame serial numbers are 11000 apart and do have the same last 3 digits!

For what it's worth my '51 was built in late October. It's serial number is 282204, the engine is 270204. Casting codes on some of the accessories range from September of 1951 through mid October of '51

My 51 M is #271594X1. Can you tell me when in 1951 it was built? The engine no. is 260594. Thanks!

First one assembled July 51, serial 269506. First one August 51, serial 273712. So tractor assembled in August.
