gas gauge idea

OK, It seems like folks would like to have gas/fuel gauges on old Farmalls, What can't someone make an adapter that would twist onto the filler neck of Farmall gas tanks with the gasket and two tab twist on bottom and the threaded type on top like the snow mobile or lawn mower they make tons of different lengths of those so you could find one to fit any tank depth. But the great thing is one adapter would fit all Farmall tractors.

I don't have the resources to make anything just a lot of time driving up and down the road thinking

They had gas gauges at the dealer when Dad bought his
450D back in 1956.
It lasted a whole year until the needle came off of
the shaft.
It also had a cork float which had particles come off,
which ended up in the primary fuel filter.
We're still using the gauge as a cap on the fuel tank.

Liability is one big problem with such a device. The last thing you want to have happen is for fuel to come squirting out the vent of one of those cheap plastic snowmobile/lawn mower fuel caps and start a fire.

Ask Navistar how that lawsuit turned out last time. They are still paying for it: www.ihgascap.com

Really, how difficult is it to open the cap and LOOK? You can stand on the platform, grab the steering wheel, lean right over and see down in quite clearly. There's even a handy seam in the middle of the letter series tanks that will tell you 1/2 full.

Oh and one more comment: The people that have the biggest problem with running out of fuel are the ones that keep the tank near empty all the time anyway. Those cork-bobber fuel gauges don't read that low. They tell you you're empty at about 1/4 tank, but you know better and keep running, then run out of gas anyway...

Better to just assume you're out of gas and put some in before you head out to do a job.

You can still get them but different material in float and gasket. Steiners tractor parts has them.

How difficult is it to look? Well considering a large number of Farmall owners are getting up there in years, for some it is very difficult. A gauge
makes things easier for some and the style made now has no issues. If it?s more convenient for an owner to use one, then by all means do so.

I did not say it was difficult to look in the tank, and Stieners does not have them any more when you look on the website it says OUT OF STOCK ? I was just looking for a cheap alternative to used ones on ebay. So since
OEM is gone the original design is NLA. Liability ???? I talking about using an existing gas cap they use then on snow machine and boat tank I would think things can get pretty bouncy on those thing with out them
blowing up.
Thanks for the stick idea I would never have figured that out.

I keep a stick in the tool box of each of my old tractors.I can stick the tank when I walk up to the tractor before I start it. The M,SM,400;JD 'A' are pretty tall.Or....I just fill the tank if I head to the field for more than 30 min job.
