My 856 sometimes jumps out of reverse. I will start backing up in then it jumps out, it does not do this all the time. I also have a hard time getting it in reverse, when I try to put it in revers gears are grinding not matter how hard I push the clutch in or idle down the engine. What are possible causes of this? Thanks

Linkage bad fork and doen't the clutch adjustment with the TA affect the shifting on them. I've never had a TA tractor to deal with for more than it took to delete it when we went through the whole transmission. Then they never worked in low side so just never used it.

I?ve had a bad fork might be broken with all the followers I won?t let it shift and then I?ve also had the housing ware on the thrust washer on the shaft so when you put the shifter in reverse it goes past and it disengages the reverse gear and this way the tractor does not have to be running you can watch it when you shift it this way you can check everything the keyway might be bad on the shaft goes in at the fork It?s hard to tell somebody what?s wrong without looking at itIf you live in central Iowa I would come and look at it for you

Well lets start at the top and move down from there , Due to extensive field testing and due to the lack of keeping the clutch and T/A dump vale in correct adjust ment and SLAM shifting stuff just plum ware out . And due to the short throw on the rev. shift it does not take much to have them not go all the way in. . And like others have said could be a broken shift fork ( seen this many times) or it could be just woren clevises or headed pins . So ya pull the cowel and see how much slop ya got there then pull the kick panel and if need be the deck plate then the side cover down on the left side behind the step the one with the clipped corner , NOW depending on where the Hyd Fluid level is if it at the correct level then you will loose a gallon by pulling this cover , BUT if you are Five gallon over your going to loose 6 gallon of hyd fluid . This is where the rev. shift fork lives .
