farmall 806

I recently bought a very nice restored 806 Farmall. Everything seems ok, starts and runs and does it all ok, at least right now. I wanted to check the potency of the Anti-Freeze before cold weather hits, and discovered the water is below the core, nothing in top tank. When I got the tractor, I added a little coolant, it was a bit low. I disked with it about an hour and parked it. I noticed it pushed a little coolant out the overflow tube, not too worried as I have a 8-N that will eliminate a bit of water if over filled. I figured the 806 might be just seeking it's own level and not to worry. But I got a ladder, climbed up to look with a flash light, the tank was empty, core tubes visible. Oil level is right, so it's not in the oil pan thankfully. Could it be needing a new radiator cap?. (maybe wishful thinking)Your thoughts please.

If it is not running hot just fill ir to cover the tubes in the core. Or till you can get enough to test after you run it. Also look for a leaking radiator tank seam. Our 856 would not get hot but would leak coolant down one side. The top tank seam was leaking. Basically same tractors.

The battery's were low, got them charged and it started easily. poured in one gallon of 50/50 A/F mix to fill top tank. THEN---I noticed the radiator cap. The brass dish like circle under the cap's spring, was wore through on one side, somewhat of a gash through the brass in two places, no way that will hold any pressure at all, so I'll get a new 7 Lb cap. I took a flash lite and checked around the head gasket lines, best I could, no leaks or bubbles at all, nor (as a friend advised me to do) did I see any liquids seeping or leaking from behind the water pump area. That component piece that bolts on left side near the front of engine, also has a cable coming out of it, maybe the temp gauge sender not sure yet what that is, it is seeping just a drop now and then of coolant out of one pipe joint on it. Thankfully I have seen nothing super serious.

It was not running hot---there was water in tank when I did disk with it for an hour or so, I think temp gauge was ok all that time, but apparently it was getting rid of water unbeknownst to me. When it sat a couple days and I looked, I could see the core. The cap was shot though, I got a new one and will try it again soon.
