H4 magneto mounting base

Are there different mounting bases for an H4 magneto? I have one that when mounted to an H Farmall the magneto is tipped way out
where normally it is pretty much straight up and down. What would this mount be for?

Yes, there are different flanges for the H4 magneto. There was a magneto used on some IH balers that the flange was turned at about a 45 degree angle. These magnetos will have the letter "Y" in the serial number. The drive will be marked "RX".

I assume you are asking about flanges as the H-4 is flange mounted, not base mounted. The flange that puts the magneto at a 45 degree angle is for the 69ci Continental engine used on some implements. It only has a 10 degree lag angle so the tractor engine won't get enough spark advance.

The Cub engine uses a J-4 magneto.
