good evening all I'm going to look at a ih 100 trailer type sickle mower tomorrow seller asking $150.00 needs some work and a hyd. ram for raise lower, the wobble box will turn about 60 degrees the seller says and then jams up? questions I have are parts still available for this mower at case ih.? and who are good aftermarket sources for parts? what was the size of hyd. ram for this mower? any help and advice I can get are greatly appreciated

Any parts that are available for inside the balanced head housing are astoundingly expensive. If anything in there needs work, it is unlikely to be worth fixing.

thank you jim and delta red I will take your advice and pass this one by. I already have 1 1960's mower with parts issues so will limit my search to nh 456 or ih 1100 the newer generations that don't have N.A. STAMPED ON MOST OF THE PARTS.

I had one of these years ago, it was problem free, hook it up & mow. From the sounds of this one,
it could take a lot of $$$$ to ever mow with it.

Actually, the housing and yoke and several other parts of the "wrist action" drive are the same part numbers between the #100 and the 1100!

Agreed. It was expensive to work on the wobble box on them back in the 1970s, I can't imagine anything has gotten cheaper. I picked up a good 130 mounted mower at the Gerdes auction last spring for $100. I had briefly looked at it while missing a few guards it appeared complete and in working condition then jumped on it when I saw how cheap it was going. It's now the parts unit for my 120 semi mount.

I would agree, the mower sounds like a money pit. If it's the wobble box causing the issues, things can get pricey. I would pull the wrist pin & see
if it still jams. It's possible there's something binding out on the bar. Most any _x8" single or dual action cylinder will fit. I have a 2 1/2" dual
on mine. Aftermarket parts for just about everything on that mower are still available from Rowse in NE (& cheaper than Case!). They also have parts
for the NH pitmanless drive.

I have a #100 with 2 wheels and a hitch and cylinder and it works good. been around them since the
mid 60's and they are about the best. I also have a parts mower i guess you can call it as it died
and i purchased another used one and put this one out on the iron trailer.
A neighbor priced a new balance head about 10 years ago and it was nearly $4000. He just purchased
another used one at a sale.
My cousin replaced the bearings in his balance head several years ago and it ran as long as he needed
it and his widow got nearly $800 for it on his sale.
I always greased the zerk under the chrome plug every once a year and yes i still had problems after
several years. But some of those mowers have to be 55 years old.

The wobble head can be overhauled and the best place to do this is Rouse Rakes in Burwelll NE. They make these heads and have all the tools and materials to do the work. Just beware if the crankshaft is bad, it could cost in the $1000 range. I had mine overhauled by them a 2 years ago where they put in new bearings and etc and cost me $300. But my crankshaft was good, but the bearings were really in need of replacing. They also have all the parts for the mower also. I bought a brand new knife for the mower so I had 2 of them and the entire knife was $79.00 for a 7 foot one. I could not buy the sections and replace them for that. I also bought new hold downs for the bar from them that are adjustable. You set them up so there is .010 between it and the sections. They work GREAT!!
